Sun International’s Sibaya Casino and its affiliate Sibaya Community Trust have done extraordinary work over the years, impacting the lives of local residents in the Durban and surrounding areas. But recently the casino upped the ante on its social responsibility projects by assisting 50 venerable children with corrective eye surgery and related treatments.
The sponsorship was facilitated via Sibaya’s service provider Keratoconus Foundation South Africa, which gave desperately needed treatment of corneal transplant, cross-linking, intacs and contact lenses to the children. The foundation also provided the training of clinicians, registrars and UKZN optometry students at McCord Provincial Hospital.
Vivian Reddy, the chairman of Sibaya Casino and Sibaya Community Trust spoke about the special project and the value that it brought to both the givers and the recipients.
“It is only right that we pause and think about those who have never known what it means to be able to SEE”, he said. “The need is for us, the visually gifted, to want to award the incredible gift of “sight” that we have been bestowed with and ensure that, when the time comes to act, we stand together and pass on the gift of sight to those less fortunate.”
Reddy said that hundreds of people in South Africa are in need of a lifesaving corneal transplant and many of them die waiting for a donated cornea or are taken off the waiting list. As such, Sibaya Casino is proud and happy to have made a difference to 50 children, he said.
Reddy also mentioned that Sibaya Casino is associated with the Cardiac Foundation of South Africa, whereby it sponsored 40 children to undergo corrective heart surgery that took place at the eThekwini heart hospital.
“Our financial intervention most certainly has saved lives of the most vulnerable,” he said. But that’s not the end of Sibaya Casino’s contribution to those less fortunate in the community in which it serves.
According to Reddy, Sibaya Casino continues with free cancer screening via its NPO Daughters of Africa, which also assists on its free covid vaccination drive.
“Sibaya Community Trust has supported over 120 entities and has spent close to R250 million on community upliftment projects ranging from programs around health, education, infrastructure and much more,” he added.
Sibaya Casino and Entertainment Kingdom is considered a top holiday destination and gaming destination in Durban. It is located just a few minutes’ drive from the local international airport in the green hills of KwaZulu-Natal and overlooking the beautiful Indian Ocean.
Sibaya Casino hosts nearly 1,300 slots, including touch-bet Roulette. There are 50 gaming tables to choose from, incorporating favourites such as Roulette, Blackjack, Poker, Baccarat and the innovative Call Card 52.
Players can choose from smoking or non-smoking sections of the casino floor, as well as the exclusive Royal Court Salon Prive which is reserved for Gold, Platinum and Diamond Sun International MVG cardholders.
