# GrandWest Casino Offers Space to W. Cape Government For Vaccination Site

A vacant coffee shop at GrandWest Casino has been turned into a vaccination site for the public, just in time for the school holidays.
The goal of this project, which is being run in partnership with the Western Cape government and Cold Chain Pharmacist for health services, is to make the Covid-19 vaccine more accessible to as many South Africans possible.

## Vaccinations Twice a Week
During the month of June and July, a vaccination team will be on hand at GrandWest every Wednesday and Friday to issue the dosages.
Another day will be added during the school holidays (June 27 – July 15), when staff will also be on hand on a Thursday. Operating hours are 9 am to 2 pm.
## Sun International “Delighted” to Help Community
In August last year, GrandWest Casino became the first approved hospitality and leisure industry workplace Covid-19 vaccination site in the Western Cape, and the third in the country after [Sun City](https://www.southafricancasinos.co.za/sun-city-casino.html) and the [Wild Coast Sun](https://www.southafricancasinos.co.za/casino-resorts/wild-coast-sun-casino.html) – two other Sun International properties.
The site administered hundreds of Pfizer vaccinations each day, not only to staff, their families, and concessionaires, but also to the wider local communities. Speaking about the latest project, the General Manager at GrandWest Casino and Entertainment World, Mervyn Naidoo said that the parent group was “delighted” to offer the available space to the Western Cape government.
“When we first opened a site in 2021, in partnership with the Department of Health, we were able to offer vaccinations to not only our staff, but also to their families, our concessionaires, and of course, our local communities. The more convenient the location, the more people will take the jab,” he said.
## The Pandemic is Not Over
While the severity of the pandemic has decreased in recent months, health experts recognize that the pandemic is not yet over. Thanks to GrandWest Casino, the local government is able to continue its vaccination drives.
It has urged all community members to make use of the opportunity to get vaccinated at the [casino](https://www.southafricancasinos.co.za/) and at other sites across the province such as Kraaifontein CHC and Bishop Lavis CDC. The government says that the vaccine remains our best defense to beat the virus. The vaccinations are free, and no appointments are required to receive them.
